December 16, 2008: The North Carolina Supreme Court hears oral arguments For WakeCARES et al VS. WCPSS.

May 22, 2008: The North Carolina Supreme Court issues a stay of the decision by Superior Court Judge Howard Manning, Jr. giving parents the right to have a say in the calendar on which their children attend school.

May 6, 2008: The Appellate Court rules in favor of the WCPSS.

Wednesday, January 9, 2008: Appellate Court Judges McCullough, Steelman and Geer preside over the appeal hearing requested by the Wake County Public School System to overturn the ruling of Judge Manning and take away the right of families to a traditional calendar seat.Wednesday, June 27, 2007: The N.C. Court of Appeals has rejected the school system’s request for a stay of Judge Manning’s ruling. This comes after the appellate court rejected the school system’s request last week for an emergency stay.

Wednesday, June 20, 2007: The temporary stay requested by WCPSS is denied.

Tuesday, June 5, 2007: School Board votes to ask for a stay of Judge Manning’s decision which requires parents to give informed consent in order for their children to attend a year round school.

Friday, May 4, 2007: In an emergency meeting held this morning, the Wake County Board of Education voted to continue with the conversion of the 22 schools to year round despite the ruling by Judge Howard Manning Jr. In addition the board also voted to file for an expedited appeal of Judge Manning’s decision.

Thursday, May 3, 2007: Judge Manning rules in favor of WakeCARES. Parents must give informed consent in order for their children to attend year round schools.

Wednesday, April 18, 2007: WakeCARES et al. vs. WCPSS is heard by Superior Court Judge Howard Manning Jr.

March 13, 2007: Lawsuit filed by WakeCARES.

February 13, 2007: The WCPSS was presented with a letter from Robert Hunter Jr. WakeCARES attorney. The letter requested the school system drop year round conversions from the 2007-08 reassignment plan.
